An afternoon of friends

CapyHour is a 3 hour guided capybara encounter where small groups of 8 to 10 meet kangaroos, otters, owls, lemurs, armadillos and more, then finish by floating with the capybaras in a lazy river.

Tours run by reservation only on alternating Wednesdays and Saturdays at our Pauma Valley nature inspiration center. It is a relaxed, expert-led afternoon. CapyHour fees are not tax-deductible; they go directly to the care of these animals and the cost of running the nature inspiration center.

Before you book

Reservations & Eligibility

Every guest needs their own paid reservation. One reservation admits one person, so there are no observer, photographer, or tag-along spots and no attending on someone else's booking. Guests must be at least 13. Any guest aged 13 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who also holds their own paid reservation. You may transfer your reservation to another guest 18 or older at any time; just let us know before your date so we can update the name. A valid photo ID and a signed digital waiver are required for every guest.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

30+ days out: full refund or one reschedule. Within 30 days: non-refundable. Reservations transfer to anyone 18 or older; just let us know before your date. Refunds processed within 30 days.

Weather

Tours go ahead rain or shine and pause only for severe weather. Our team confirms details the day before, with a refund or reschedule if we have to cancel.

Tax & Booking

CapyHour fees are not tax-deductible and support animal care. The schedule opens about one year at a time and there is no waitlist, so reserve early.

What is CapyHour?

How long is it, and which animals will I meet?

It runs about 3 hours. Along the way you may hop with kangaroos, watch the otters, meet owls, hand-feed six-banded armadillos, set up playtime for ring-tailed lemurs, feed Arctic foxes, learn what a paca is, and finish by floating with the capybaras. The lineup can change with the circumstances of the day.

What is the minimum age?

Guests must be at least 13 years old. Any guest aged 13 to 17 must attend with a parent or legal guardian who also holds their own paid reservation. Every guest needs their own paid reservation; one reservation admits one person, and there are no observer or tag-along spots. Photo ID and a digital waiver are required.

When does CapyHour run, and can I book it privately?

What should I wear and bring?

Wear weather-appropriate layers and bring a comfortable bathing suit with a t-shirt, towel, and a waterproof case for your phone or camera for the pool. Please leave loose jewelry, necklaces, earrings, and piercings at home.

What is the cancellation policy?

With 30 or more days notice you may take a full refund or reschedule once. Within 30 days, reservations are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. Reservations transfer to anyone 18 or older if you let us know before your date, refunds are processed within 30 days, and CapyHour fees are not tax-deductible. (Policy effective January 1, 2023.)
